Clean My Calanques joins PLANET 2024

ABOUT CLEAN MY CALANQUES

Marseille-based organization established in 2017, Clean My Calanques was born out of a desire to take local action and create a true citizen mobilization in the region. After six years of existence, the organization has conducted 124 cleanups along the Marseille coastline and collected over 60 tons of waste.

Once or twice a month, Clean My Calanques organizes large-scale trash pickups where conviviality and mutual assistance take center stage. These are genuine moments of sharing where the organization provides participants with complimentary vegetarian lunches and/or snacks, in partnership with local actors and restaurateurs. In each of these activities, several individuals are rewarded with ethical gifts for finding the most unique waste items.

ABOUT THE CLEANUP

As part of the PLANET 2024 project, Clean My Calanques will organize a cleanup session in Marseille during the year 2024. The goal? Raise awareness among as many people as possible about the dumping of waste in natural and communal spaces and encourage participants, as well as those affected by this action, to reflect on their habits and consumption patterns. As always, this cleanup will be accompanied by fun and interactive activities: sports, partner booths, music, and entertainment.

ABOUT PLANET 2024

PLANET 2024 is a world movement on nature conservation and restoration, driven by a coalition of organizations across the globe. As part of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, PLANET 2024 aims to mobilize civil society and businesses to accelerate concrete initiatives to restore the planet.

ABOUT THE UN DECADE ON ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION 2021-2030

The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration is a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world, for the benefit of people and nature. It aims to halt the degradation of ecosystems, and restore them to achieve global goals. Only with healthy ecosystems can we enhance people’s livelihoods, counteract climate change, and stop the collapse of biodiversity. The UN Decade runs from 2021 through 2030, which is also the deadline for the Sustainable Development Goals and the timeline scientists have identified as the last chance to prevent catastrophic climate change.
